How to choose the right cylinder basin

A cylinder basin combines the bowl and its support into one continuous freestanding column, rather than a separate basin sitting on a vanity or pedestal. The rounded form reads as a strong architectural statement, and works particularly well in a bathroom with generous floor space where the basin itself becomes the visual focal point rather than one element among several. Because it's freestanding at 900mm tall, plumbing supply and waste connections come up through the floor or the rear of the column, so this needs to be planned into the rough-in stage of the build rather than retrofitted easily afterward.

The matte white artificial stone finish gives a smooth, soft-touch surface that hides water spots and fingerprints better than a high-gloss material - worth knowing given how visible this basin is in a room, sitting free of a vanity or wall. At 450mm in diameter, check the basin's footprint against the available floor space and surrounding fixtures, including tapware and any adjacent joinery, before finalising the layout. As a single-unit freestanding piece, it's best suited to a design where it's the room's centrepiece rather than one of several basins.
