A shower floor with no grout to fail

Domustone® shower bases are moulded as a single piece with the fall to waste built in — the tile joints, grout lines and separate waterproofing membrane a tiled shower floor depends on simply aren't there to fail.

Pietra & Cemento shower floor ranges

Pietra brings a natural stone look; Cemento reads as honed polished concrete. Both are cut from the same solid surface, in the same finish and size run, so you can match a shower floor to almost any bathroom material palette without stepping down to tiles.

  • No grout, no mould, no leaks — one continuous surface instead of dozens of grout lines
  • In-built slope engineered for correct drainage to the waste, every time
  • Complies with Australian NCC 2022 for shower floor installations
  • Silica-free — Domustone is a mineral-composite material, not an engineered stone
  • Huge size range — roughly 700mm to 2000mm, square, rectangular, corner, alcove and custom-cutable
  • Easy to clean with common household detergents

The case for solid surface

Tiles, engineered stone, or a solid surface base?

Every shower floor material trades off differently on waterproofing, maintenance and (since 2024) legal supply in Australia. Here's how a Domustone base actually compares.

Tiled shower floor Engineered stone Domustone solid surface
Grout / joints Dozens of joints, need re-sealing Slab joints depending on layout None — single moulded piece
Waterproofing Separate membrane beneath tiles Separate membrane required Integrated, one-piece base
Fall to waste Set by the tiler on site Set by the installer Factory-built into every base
Crystalline silica N/A Yes — subject to AU supply restrictions None
Step-free / level entry Possible, adds build complexity Possible, adds build complexity Standard, no-step profile
Typical residential warranty Workmanship only, varies by installer Varies by fabricator 7 years on the product

Fire rating: Class 1
Structural warranty: Up to 25 years
Finish warranty: 5 years

Above-counter & freestanding basins

Domustone Pure® swaps the acrylic resin most solid surfaces use for a vegetable-based (maize) resin instead — a fully recyclable, eco-friendly material that's still fireproof to Class 1 and stain-resistant enough for daily use. Select pieces use Cristalplant®, the Italian solid surface designers reach for when finish quality matters most.

  • Homogeneous through the full thickness — scratches and stains buff out rather than needing replacement
  • Matte white velvet-touch finish, or a custom RAL colour to order
  • Fireproof (Class 1), UV-stable, hygienic and non-porous
  • 100% recyclable, made with plant-based resin

Freestanding baths

The same matte white solid surface as the basin range, formed into a freestanding bath shell with a 25-year structural warranty — the longest cover in the Domus Living range, reflecting how the material behaves once it's actually installed and living in a bathroom.

  • 25-year structural integrity warranty, 5 years on the solid surface finish
  • Velvet-touch matte white as standard, custom RAL colour available
  • Reparable finish — scratches and marks can be restored rather than replaced

The materials, explained

Three names, one idea: solid surface, made properly

Domus Living uses three related but distinct materials depending on the product — here's what each one actually is.

Shower floors

Domustone®

A technologically advanced composite: mostly natural mineral charges (calcium carbonate) with a small proportion of high-purity polyester and acrylic polymers. Inert, hypoallergenic, UV-resistant and heavy-duty; with no quartz or crystalline silica, so it's a genuinely different material to engineered stone, not a variant of it.

Basins & baths

Domustone Pure®

A matte white solid surface, homogeneous through its full thickness, velvet to the touch. The distinguishing detail: Domus Living's labs replaced the acrylic resin standard to solid surface manufacturing with a vegetable-origin (maize) resin, making it fully recyclable and eco-friendly without giving up fire resistance (Class 1) or stain resistance.

Select basins

Cristalplant®

A globally recognised Italian solid surface used by well-known designers and architects. Matte white, homogeneous, fireproof and reparable, with the finish quality and customisation that comes from decades as the material of choice for high-end bathroom design.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is Domustone, and is it engineered stone?
Domustone is Domus Living's own composite material made from a high percentage of natural mineral charges (calcium carbonate) with a low percentage of high-purity polyester and acrylic polymers. It contains no quartz or crystalline silica, so it is a completely different material to engineered stone and isn't affected by Australia's engineered stone restrictions.
Are solid surface shower bases better than tiled shower floors?
A solid surface shower base is a single moulded piece with the fall to waste built in, so there's no grout to trap mould and no tile joints for water to work through over time. Tiled floors depend on a separate waterproofing membrane and dozens of grout lines, either of which can fail years later — a one-piece Domustone base removes that failure point.
Do Domus Living shower floors comply with Australian building standards?
Yes. Domustone shower floors comply with the Australian National Construction Code (NCC) 2022, and every base has an in-built slope engineered for correct drainage to the waste.
How long is the warranty on Domus Living products?
Residential: shower floors carry 7 years on the product plus 1 year on the waste and labour. Baths and Colonna freestanding basins carry 25 years structural integrity and 5 years on the solid surface finish. Wall-hung and vanity-top basins carry 5 years structural and 5 years on the finish. Commercial terms are shorter — see the full warranty schedule.
Can I get a custom colour?
Yes. Alongside the standard Matte White, Light Grey and Matte Black finishes, most ranges are available as a custom (indent) colour order matched to a RAL reference.
How do you clean and maintain a Domustone surface?
Daily care is soap and water or a non-abrasive detergent, rinsed off and wiped dry. Avoid acetone, trichloroethylene, and strong acids or bases. Domustone Pure and Cristalplant are homogeneous through their full thickness, so light scratches or stains can usually be buffed out with an abrasive sponge; Domustone shower floors have a colour-matched repair pen for small surface scratches.
What sizes do Domustone shower floors come in?
The Pietra and Cemento ranges span roughly 700mm to 2000mm, in square, rectangular, corner and alcove configurations, plus custom-cutable options for non-standard bases.
Is Domus Living an Australian or Italian company?
Domus Living Australia Pty Ltd is an Australian-registered company that imports and distributes bathware made in Italy. The products are manufactured by Italian artisans; the business, warranty and local support are Australian.
What's the difference between Domustone, Domustone Pure and Cristalplant?
Domustone is the mineral-composite material used for shower floors. Domustone Pure is a matte white solid surface used for the bath collection and basins, made with vegetable-origin (maize) resin instead of standard acrylic resin. Cristalplant is a premium international solid surface brand used on select bath and basin pieces, valued by designers for its finish and customisation.
Where can I buy Domus Living products in Australia?
Domus Living sells exclusively through a network of Australian retailers rather than direct to the public. Lamex Bathrooms & Kitchens stocks the full range — shower floors, basins and freestanding baths — ready to order.
