How to choose the right plain shaving cabinet

Start with door count and width relative to your vanity. A single door around 400-450mm suits a narrow ensuite vanity, a double door in the 600-900mm range suits most standard vanities, and a four-door cabinet over 1200mm suits a wide double-basin vanity where two people need their own storage zone. Check which side the door hinges on, and make sure it won't clash with a nearby wall, shower screen or toilet roll holder when fully open.

Because there's no built-in light, plan a separate wall or ceiling fitting positioned to illuminate the mirror evenly, ideally either side of the cabinet rather than directly above it to avoid shadowing the face. Gloss white and matte white finishes suit a brighter, traditional bathroom, while matte black gives a more contemporary contrast against light tiling. Look at shelf adjustability if you need to store taller items, and confirm the depth if the cabinet will sit above a tall mixer tap.
