How to choose the right semi recessed basin

A semi recessed basin sits roughly half in and half out of the benchtop - the back portion of the bowl drops into a cutout while the front portion projects forward, past the edge of the benchtop itself. This lets the vanity carcass sit shallower than it would need to for a fully above-counter basin, which is useful in narrow bathrooms, ensuites or hallway powder rooms where floor space is tight. Because part of the basin overhangs the front of the cabinet, check the projection measurement against your available floor clearance, particularly near a door swing or shower screen.

Semi recessed basins need a benchtop cutout, similar to an insert basin, so confirm the cutout template from the product page before your benchtop is cut. Because the front of the bowl projects past the cabinet edge, they generally don't suit vanities with drawers directly under the basin - check the cabinetry design allows for the basin's front overhang.
