How to choose the right vanity

Start with the room, not the cabinet. Measure the available wall width, the depth from the wall to any obstruction, and the door swing before comparing products. Wall hung vanities suit smaller ensuites because the floor stays visible, which helps a compact room feel larger and makes cleaning simpler. Floor standing vanities generally offer more internal storage for the same width and work well in family bathrooms where towels, cleaning supplies and toiletries need a home. Double bowl vanities from 1200mm up suit shared bathrooms where two people get ready at once.

Material choice affects both budget and durability. PVC-wrapped cabinets are fully waterproof and resist swelling in wet areas, making them a common choice for ensuites and bathrooms with showers nearby. MDF and plywood cabinets with a laminate or woodgrain finish offer a broader range of colours and textures at a lower price point, and are suitable where the cabinet isn't in constant contact with water.
