How to choose the right wall hung basin

Wall hung basins bolt directly to the wall with a bracket, so there's no vanity cabinet underneath - the floor stays visually open, which makes the room feel larger and simplifies cleaning underneath. This installation type suits small ensuites, powder rooms, laundries, and bathrooms designed for wheelchair access where clear floor space matters. Because the basin is unsupported from below, the wall needs solid blocking or noggins at the correct height to carry the load - confirm this with your plumber or builder before installation, especially in a stud or lightweight wall.

Check whether the basin includes an overflow (a small drainage channel that prevents the basin overflowing if a tap is left running) and how many tap holes it has - single hole for a mixer, three holes for separate hot and cold taps, or no tap hole if you're using a wall-mounted tap. Because there's no cabinet to hide pipework, wall hung basins are often paired with a bottle trap for a neater finish than a standard P-trap. Measure the basin's projection from the wall to confirm it leaves enough clearance in front for the door swing and general movement in the room.
