How to choose the right water outlet spout

A standalone spout is used when you're building a custom tap arrangement with separate hot and cold handles or wall-mounted taps, or when you simply need to replace a worn or leaking spout without changing the rest of your existing tapware. The first decision is mounting position: a wall-mounted spout projects out from the wall above or behind the sink, while an edge or deck-mounted spout sits on the benchtop itself, similar to where a standard mixer spout would sit.

Check the spout's projection length against your sink's depth and width — it needs to reach comfortably over the centre of the bowl so the water stream doesn't hit the front or back wall.
